We make theatre
in the dark.

Founded in Los Angeles, Society of the Cellar is a collective of theatre makers dedicated to dismantling conventions. We create work that exists in the liminal space between performance and provocation.

Our productions excavate forgotten histories, challenge dominant narratives, and reimagine theatrical form. We believe theatre is a radical act, a space where audiences do not simply watch, but participate in collective transformation.

We are drawn to what happens when faith is institutionalized, when power masquerades as righteousness, and when private belief becomes violently public law.

"Theatre should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed."

Radical Aesthetic

Immersive, site-specific, formally inventive work that refuses the safety of the fourth wall.

Historical Subversion

We excavate the past not to preserve it but to interrogate it, using anachronism, dark comedy, and the surreal logic of the present.

Collective Practice

Every production is built in collaboration. We welcome directors, performers, writers, and the genuinely difficult question.
